Science Sundays: Floating on the Edge: Physiology, Ecology, and Recovery of Southern Sea Otters

Nearly hunted to extinction for their fur during the 18th and 19th centuries, the southern sea otter population recovery has been a slow and meandering journey. This iconic nearshore species is a physiological oddball among marine mammals. Collaborative research efforts examining the unique physiology, behavior, and ecology of southern sea otters is continuing to improve our understanding of this threatened keystone predator.

Join Nicole Thometz, Univ. of San Francisco, as she discusses her work with southern sea otters, especially with sea otter moms and pups.
