The Academy is very excited to have DJs Jondi, Silencefiction, Scott Carrelli and Spesh from The Qoöl Happy Hour providing the music for this week’s installment of NightLife. The self-proclamined longest running electronic music club night in San Francisco, The Qoöl Happy Hour takes place every Wednesday night at the 111 Minna Gallery in SoMa and features mostly electronic music, with a progressive theme, from electro, to breaks, to techno, to progressive house, and even ambient. These four acclaimed DJs are sure to make this a noteworthy evening.
Film Screening: “Frogs: The Thin Green Line” (55 min)
Frogs have been living on Earth for more than 360 million years. “Frogs: The Thin Green Line” documents these amazing creatures and what researchers are doing to learn from them. Their ability to adapt to their environment has led them to evolve into some of the most amazing and beautiful creatures in the world. But now, those abilities are failing them. As ecosystems begin to unravel, the voice of frogs has begun to be silenced. Come watch this amazing film and learn why the frogs of the world are disappearing, and what it means to all of us. Science In Action Symposium (30 min)
Hosted By Kishore Hari of “Down to a Science”
This week’s installment of our symposium will include a conversation with Allison Argo, the filmmaker behind this week’s featured film, “Frogs: The Thin Green Line,” Allison will be talking with Berkeley professor, herpetologist and National Geographic Explorer Tyrone Hayes, whose research is featured in the documentary. They will explore the question of what is causing the frogs to disappear, and field your questions about what we can do to help change the direction of this sad story.
