IGMUN VII: A Time for Action: Preparing our youth for the world

IGMUNIt is more apparent every day that science informs international cooperation and relations.  We need our future leaders to be prepared for this reality.  This is a great opportunity for 12 to 90 year olds to learn together.

The world has just made its biggest ever promise to itself. Our leaders have agreed to 17 Global Goals that would mean a better life for all of us. A plan that 193 governments have agreed, a plan that the world wants and needs. A plan backed by leading business and organizations. They would virtually end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change in the next 15 years. They are the biggest attempt in the history of the human race to make the world a better place. A to-do list for the planet that will only be achieved if everyone plays their part.

IGMUN uses the global goals as the theme for our conference. Below are the are provisional topics for IGMUN 2017.  All are timely and important.

This is a one day program of the United Nations Association USA, Northern California Division, where delegates of all ages participate in debate as representatives of UN Member States, collaborating to reach agreement about priority international issues through the simulation of the United Nations. IGMUN is designed as a teaching and learning conference and is intended for both novices and delegates with prior Model UN experience. Participants will be joined by other guests including notable leaders in civic affairs and international relations.

What is an IGMUN?

IGMUN is a program of the Northern California Division of the United Nations Association USA. IGMUN is one of the few inter-generational Model United Nations in the U.S., previously engaging diverse participants aged 12 - 90 years old. As a non-competitive simulation of the United Nations, IGMUN is an excellent opportunity for both novices and experienced delegates to practice their debate and negotiation skills, and to experience the value of international cooperation, mutual understanding, and the special importance of the United Nations.
