Neuroscience has built a case for addressing many of the Great Questions (You & Me, Animals & People, Free Will & Determinism, Nature & Nurture, Art & Science, Life & Death) as interdependent feedback loops. In this presentation, Dr. Stephens will discard the old left brain as accountant / right brain as artist cliché for a new and improved left brain-right brain oversimplification! He will then show how certain brains work (frog, puppy, Richard Feynman), and, with the audience’s help, will answer* all of the Great Questions about life, the universe, and everything. (* Results may vary.)
Ransom Stephens, PhD, physicist, science writer, and novelist, has written hundreds of articles on subjects ranging from neuroscience to quantum physics to parenting teenagers. His new book, The Left Brain Speaks but the Right Brain Laughs (Viva Editions, 2016), is an accurate, irreverent, skeptical, but indulgent look at neuroscience for a lay-audience with emphasis on innovation in art, science, and life. Ransom has been a research professor in particle physics (University of Texas, Arlington), director of advanced technology for a startup (titles in lieu of pay), an applied electrodynamics physicist (a.k.a., applications engineer). He threw all of that away to become a writer of science and novels.
