Silicon Valley Leaders Symposium: Patricia Backer from Global Technology Initiative

Patricia Backer

Since Fall 2002, the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering has hosted the Silicon Valley Leaders Symposium (SVLS). The Symposium hosts industry and technology leaders to talk about business and technology trends. It also features prominent leaders who discuss broader societal and political issues that shape our life and society.

Pat Backer is a professor in the College of Engineering’s Technology department at San Jose State University. Her research interests include Engineering Education, History of Technology, and Gender issues in technology.

Backer is a champion of the College’s Global Technology Initiative. In 2004, the SJSU Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering established a $1 million Global Technology Initiative, with the mission of giving SJSU students a global perspective with a focus on technology and business developments in the Asia Pacific region. Its goal is to expand students’ horizons about the opportunities and challenges of a global economy, to expose them to global environmental and energy problems in which technology plays a central role, and to motivate their learning of global issues and different cultures.

GTI participants in previous years have completed study-tours in China, India and Taiwan. This lecture will be about the latest GTI study tour in Taiwan.
