Entrepreneurship in Energy: Building a battery company from Shenzhen to San Francisco - Livestream

Hannah Sieber

This talk reviews several key trends in the lithium-ion battery industry, including the year-over-year exponential reductions in the cost of lithium ion cells, which have made lithium-ion power stations more widely available in the developed and developing world. In parallel, this talk explores the trend towards residential and community-level storage and solar has similarly enabled individuals to live lives completely off the grid, enabling new habits and lifestyles. Finally, this talk examines the increasing growth in lithium-ion-dependent products, namely electric vehicles, and how it has required new approaches to the global supply chain and  transportation of hazmat materials across countries with local regulations and tariffs.

Additionally, this talk will also share the experience of co-founding and building Ecoflow, from an apartment in Shenzhen, to a global company with sales in the U.S., E.U., Japan and China. It shares both the lessons from building products the right way and the wrong way, as well as operational lessons from building a cross-border hardware start-up.
