NightLife resumes its role as the official pre-party for the Noise Pop Music and Arts Festival as the bastion of Bay Area independent music takes over for an evening exploring the science of sound.
-----> In the Piazza, catch a DJ set from a local favorite - chillwave originator, vocalist, and producer Toro y Moi.
-----> Get some creative inspiration from songwriter, musician, and producer John Vanderslice, longtime owner of the Mission’s legendary Tiny Telephone recording studio that counts Sleater-Kinney, Spoon, tune-yards, and more as clients. Known for his “sloppy hi-fi” approach to recording, which celebrates the sounds captured from live and spontaneous performances, he’ll talk about getting inspiration from “Linear Creativity in a Digital World.”
-----> Tinker and tool with the buttons and dials on vintage analog synthesizers, provided by the Vintage Synth Museum.
-----> Learn about the incredible melodic and rhythmic complexity of whale songs with the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.
-----> Feast your eyes on 26 years of Noise Pop poster art at a mini pop-up art gallery. In the planetarium, NightLife presents “Vortex 2.0,” a new show honoring the historic and groundbreaking Vortex series with immersive visual and sonic creations by artists Bedtimes, Chase Hochstatter, Peter Clark, Chris Bjerre, Can Buyukberber, and Obscura. Twist and turn through alien worlds and lose yourself in mesmerizing forms and colors, with a soundtrack featuring music from Shigeto and other local artists.
