A Panel Discussion on Defining Data Science as a Profession
Part of AI Frontiers Conference
Help Define "Data Science" as a Profession. There is a specification on "what is an accountant" or "what is a medical doctor", but not "what is a data scientist." Just as there can be medical doctors with different specialities (children, cancer, surgery), there can be data scientists with different specialities (NLP, graph analysis, prediction, image recognition, outlier detection...) or different vertical market skills. Should we have a test to qualify as a data scientist, or for different levels of being a data scientist? Should we have a "Residency Program," and if so, how? Let's start the discussion. As a hiring manager, what would you want? What would help you as a candidate?
