The first three consecutive supermoons of 2019 will occur in January, February, and March. To add to the celestial excitement, the first supermoon of 2019 will pass through the shadow of the Earth, which results in a lunar eclipse. In the Bay Area, the eclipse occurs on January 20, 2019 from 7:33 pm to 9:43 pm.
The College of San Mateo Astronomy Department and San Mateo County Astronomical Society will celebrate the event by setting up telescopes for public viewing of the lunar eclipse in the CSM Plaza of the Sun (north of the planetarium). The event starts at 6:30 pm (approximately penumbral time of the eclipse). Come and celebrate with us!
