The dynamics of quantum spin systems beyond the 'universal' low-energy/long-wavelength regime is only poorly explored, despite the fact that plenty of experimental data has become available thanks to recent advances in neutron scattering technology. This talk focuses on 'generic' properties of the intermediate energy regime, in particular properties of magnets in or near topological phases .
