Celebrate one of life’s most classic combos - coffee and chocolate - in a tribute to two of the Bay Area’s favorite ways to get buzzed.
Sip and taste samples from local roasters and chocolatiers while learning everything there is to know about caffeine, beans, that unique bitter taste, and the science behind those supposed health benefits.
Sharpen your sense of taste and smell with low-stakes taste tests with the Sunset’s Andytown Coffee Roasters (now being served in the Academy Café!) and Henry’s House of Coffee. You’ve had their chocolate pies and breads, but have you tried Tartine’s coffee? Get to know Coffee Manufactory, a coffee roaster born out of Tartine Manufactory.
Delve deeper with a short talk by UC Berkeley’s Michael Alberto Gomez, plant and microbial biologist, on a plan to use CRISPR to make cacao plants resistant to the diseases that plague them. By the end of the night, you’ll be transformed into a newly-knowledgeable coffee and chocolate consumer - but you won’t be falling asleep anytime soon.
