Policies to Respond to the Next Influenza Pandemic

The 1918 influenza pandemic resulted in an estimated 50 million deaths worldwide, with three subsequent influenza pandemics of variable severity in the past century, most recently in 2009. Influenza pandemics typically result in many hospitalizations and deaths worldwide, with enormous public health, economic, and societal impact. The threat of the next influenza pandemic is always present, with numerous threats from viruses circulating in animals. Join Dr. Tim Uyeki, the Chief Medical Officer for the CDC's Influenza Division for a discussion about preparedness and response policies in the U.S. to the next influenza pandemic.
