Sediment transport research is key for coastal resilience in the face of climate change. How sediment moves along the coast and in particular aroundrocky headlands should determine large interventions, such as beach nourishment, to address coastal erosion. All the science in the world, however, will not provide the information to decisionmakers if translation of science into usable forms does not occur. This presentation will start with how a grain of sand moves around a coastal promontory and end with a call to practice three Rs of science translation to make a difference: research, relevance, and reach.
