Get the Dirt on UCCE!

Join us a day of science at UCCE Elkus Ranch! Explore our agriculture, nutrition, and environmental education programs through hands-on activities presented by UC Cooperative Extension Advisors, Staff and Program Volunteers.

  • Learn about pollination, beekeeping, aquatic insects and pests in your house.
  • Sample fresh seasonal produce, learn to use edible herbs, taste some fermented foods and touch a kombucha SCOBY.
  • Make a seed pot and plant a seed. Learn what can go in your compost.
  • Explore local rangeland ecology and learn about the benefits of livestock grazing.
  • Tour Elkus Ranch to meet our animals and visit our gardens.
  • See how mushrooms and termites turn wood into food.
  • Talk to a soil scientist and get the dirt on “dirt!”
  • Activities for both children and adults.
