September 27, 2017 @ 7:00 pm

- $5

Have your genome like Mr Bond: stirred not shaken. Our genome is a mix of our two parents’ genome: we’re half our mom and half our dad. And your siblings are too but they don’t look exactly like you do they?In this talk we’ll discover why we look like our siblings but not exactly; how our genomes are mixed at every generation to generate more diversity; and how this mixing is highly regulated to produce healthy individuals in other words how our genome is stirred but not shaken at each generation and why it matters.Speaker: Chloe Girard StanfordWhat the peculiar behavior of people in bars has to do with neurodegenerative diseasesWe all have heard about the ‘ice bucket challenge’ but what is really going on in Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease? In this talk you will learn more about current research on ALS and related neurodegenerative diseases without having to take a cold bath. Perhaps a wild crowd in a bar is all that is needed to illustrate complex biology.Speaker: Broder Schmidt Stanford
