The San Mateo County Astronomical Society holds a general meeting the first Friday of each month, except July and August, at 7:30 p.m. in the Planetarium at the College of San Mateo.
The meeting starts with a brief business meeting including announcements of upcoming astronomy events in the area. This is followed by our Guest Speaker.
Our guest speakers are professionals working on the leading edges of Astronomy, Cosmology, Planetary Exploration, Astrobiology, Solar Research, Aerospace Engineering and similar disciplines. Our location enables us to engage speakers from institutions like LLL, NASA, SLAC and USGS, from colleges and universities such as Stanford and campuses in the UC, CSU, and community college systems, as well as from labs and programs at Lockheed Martin and other companies.
Our meetings are open to the public and free. Children are welcome although the subjects may be too advanced for some.
Parking is free in the adjacent well-lighted parking lots, which offers easy access to the Planetarium and Science building (36).
