Mountain Lake Underground and Underwater - The History of Mountain Lake and its Environs

Join archaeologist Kari Jones to learn about the ongoing research into the cultural and natural history of Mountain Lake. She will discuss results of limnological coring of lake sediments that took place prior to dredging and what this research can tell us about the formation of the lake and the prehistoric environment. She will also discuss what is known about the Native Ohlone occupation of the Presidio and the Spanish Colonial settlement that followed. By presenting the geological, limnological, archaeological and historical data, she will summarize what is currently understood about the lake along with the many questions that remain unanswered.

Kari Jones is an archaeologist with the Presidio Trust and has worked on the planning of the Mountain Lake Enhancement and Remediation Projects since 2009.
