Speaker series: Five Myths about Airport Security

Five Myths about Airport Security

At some point in the past twelve years, the U.S. government's war on terror crossed a threshold -- from working to prevent another major terrorist attack on American soil to being a voracious counter-terrorism-industrial complex that to a large extent exists for its own sake.

Nothing demonstrates this better than the Transportation Security Administration. Since its inception in November 2001, the TSA has neither prevented a terrorist from taking down a passenger plane nor failed to prevent such an attempt.

In this talk, Richard E. Wackrow, author of the recent book "Who's Winning the War on Terror", will demonstrate how the TSA's highly touted "layered security measures" aren't making airline passengers much safer than before 9/11. He will also examine how and why the probability of another major terrorist attack has been consistently and woefully left out of the security-vs.-liberty equation.
