History of Año Nuevo Island presented by Mike Merritt

The Courthouse Docket continues with an illustrated presentation by State Park Interpreter Mike Merritt. Using historic images and maps of the past, the presentation will explore the History of Año Nuevo Island.

Año Nuevo Island is one of the youngest islands on the California coast, yet already it has managed to write itself into the history books with stories of early explorers, light house keepers and nearly extinct ocean going animals. Merritt's presentation will move through time from the naming of Año Nuevo Point in 1603 to its most recent visitors, marine biologists. Participants will learn the centuries long saga behind this semi-remote island in San Mateo County and leave with stories interesting to all Californians.
