Connection: Music as a Gateway to the Brain

As part of the 2015 Faculty Arist Recital Series at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, neuroscientist and soprano (and Inquiring Minds podcast host) Indre Viskontas is joined by Grammy-nominated pianist Keisuke Nakagoshi in an exploration of the mind through music. Why does one piece 'go viral' while another languishes in obscurity, even when written by the same composer? What can we learn about music from observations of the brains of people who are enjoying it? In this unique presentation, Dr. Viskontas combines her curiosity about the brain with her passion for singing.
