Soundwave Nightlife

To help kick off the Soundwave 7 Biennial, drop in and immerse your senses as you explore the architecture of sound. Around the museum, installations will explore how sound is created and transmitted-so listen up! Explore "Harmonograph" by Colin Bowring, a pendulum-based drawing machine that blends art and science for a visual and acoustic experience designed to demonstrate the beauty of physics. Engineer-by-day, musician-by-night Alexander Randon will demo Fugue, an app-based music sequencer for iOS. At the Coral Reef, gather around for "Instrumental Structures," an interactive sound and vision experience by Matthew Howell and Chris Chrismond. In front of thousands of colorful reef fish, become a living instrument and move through a virtual city in real-time. Plus, catch a synthesizer demo from I/O Music Technology. Can't get enough of this futuristic sound? Don't miss a live modular synth set by Oakland-based experimental artist Russell E.L. Butler, where he'll construct a synth patch from scratch for a truly one-of-a-kind musical experience. In the planetarium, expand your mind with a special Universe Update, followed by two showings of Habitat Earth.
