Younger Lagoon Reserve Past, Present, and Future

Elizabeth Howard

Did you know that nearly three-quarters of UCSC's Coastal Science Campus is protected as Younger Lagoon Reserve? This unique urban reserve is part of the University of California's Natural Reserve System and is used for university-level teaching, research, and public service.

The reserve provides protected habitat for over 100 resident and migratory bird species, coyotes, bobcats, and special status species such as the tidewater goby and California red-legged frog. Reserve habitats include grassland, seasonal wetland, coastal scrub, dense willow thickets, salt and freshwater marsh, coastal strand, backdune, pickleweed flat, and pocket beach.

Join Elizabeth Howard as she discusses the history of the reserve, current programs, and future plans for teaching, research, and restoration at Younger Lagoon Reserve.
