Science Sunday: Spawning, Sliming, and Stinging: The Sex Lives of Sea Urchins, Banana Slugs, and Honey Bees

Allison Gong

At the basic level, all organisms need a few things to survive-food, water, and protection from predators. For a population to persist, they also need to reproduce. Animal reproduction comes in as many bizarre forms as do animal bodies. Dr. Allison Gong has spent her career studying life cycles and larval development of various invertebrate species. She will explore the three very different reproductive strategies of the sea urchin, banana slug, and honey bee.

Join associate research biologist and beekeeper Allison Gong as she teaches us how different invertebrate animals solve the problem of "boy meets girl."
