Yuri's NightLife

Astronaut

Go straight up spacey this week as NightLife celebrates cosmo-pioneer Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space.

Groove to an out-of-this-world live DJ set by Space Cowboys, a sonically-inspired SF collective and Burning Man favorite.

Catch a space-tastic presentation from renowned astronomer Dr. Jill Tarter and planetary scientist Dr. Franck Marchis from the SETI Institute. Plus, hear a sure-to-fascinate talk about what it takes for astronomers to study supermassive black holes-and how citizen scientists can help-from Professor Kevin Schawinski of ETH Zurich.

Through a new app created by SF State students using Google's Project Tango technology, experience the scale of the Solar System and walk among the planets using augmented reality. Plus, chat with astro-aficionados from the Chabot Observatory, Planet Labs, Robert Ferguson Observatory, and the Berkeley Space Science Lab. In the planetarium, explore the future of space flight with two special presentations at 6:30 and 7:30 pm, followed by two showings of Incoming!, the Academy's new hard-hitting planetarium show about asteroids and comets, narrated by George Takei.
