'Accepting the Absurd' a SkepTalk: Berkeley

Our current understanding of the universe tells us things that are difficult to accept, some have called them absurd. The vast majority of the universe is so mysterious we call it "dark" and so poorly understood we just call it "matter" or "energy"? These extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence before skeptics should accept them. What is this evidence and how do we decide if the evidence is good? We'll look at the data, theories that tell us what to look for, and see if we should Accept the Absurd.

Leonard Tramiel, Ph.D. is on the Board of the Center for Inquiry and the Executive Council of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and holds a PhD in Physics from Columbia University. He is a retired hi-tech executive with a deep interest in science, science education, and public attitudes toward science.
