Billion-Year Walk: Lake Merritt, Oakland

People from all segments of our community will be walking around Lake Merritt throughout the day as families, couples, and individuals. They will read signposts stationed around the Lake with information on the natural history of Earth during the last billion years. The goals of the Billion-Year Walk are to interest the public in science and to introduce them to Deep Time.
The Rotary Nature Center Time Machine will take you and your loved ones back in time before there were plants and animals. Then walk around Lake Merritt back to the present as you encounter signs and exhibits about plate tectonics, climate, evolution, and a whole lot more. Younger scientists will receive a passport for the journey. Docents will answer your questions. Don't forget to have your picture taken with Fluffy, the Giganotosaur!
Presented free by the Bay Area Skeptics, the Rotary Nature Center, the National Center for Science Education, and the University of California Museum of Paleontology,
