The Challenges of Providing Data Security

Until the 1970’s the National Security Agency had unquestioned control of cryptologic research within the United States. That changed as the computer communications revolution began to take form, leading a group of Stanford researchers to publish papers that caused grave anxiety within the Agency. This talk explores the history of that conflict, the diplomacy that led to a peace that benefitted all parties, and the challenges we face as a nation going forward.
