Grounds for Science Series: Juggling Memories in Time and Space

DaliBrain

Come learn about cutting-edge research from the graduate student and post-doc community at UC Berkeley in a relaxed, sci-fi-themed cafe setting. This month features neuroscientist Dr. Lisa Johnson.

The audience is encouraged to interrupt and ask questions and engage in discussion with our speakers. Arrive at 6:30 pm and enjoy a variety of pinball machines, science trivia, home-roasted coffees and select beers. Talk begins at 7 pm.

Talk description: Memories are our records of experiences and, in the moment, they are the contents of our thoughts. Dr. Johnson will present rare insights into memory function from data recorded in real-time from humans undergoing open brain surgery or who have chronic brain damage. Together, these data reveal the complex web of neural processes that underlie memories.

Dr. Johnson studies how this organ in our heads can make us so smart and so human, with emphasis on memory. She holds degrees in Cognitive Neuroscience (UC Berkeley) and Psychology (University of Chicago).
