Making Callus Workshop - Plant Tissue Culturing 101

Tissue culture is commonly used for commercial propagation of plants and in plant research. The technique involves culturing small pieces of plant tissue, or explants, in a nutrient medium under sterile conditions. African violets are easy to propagate using this method. Depending on the composition of the medium, the explants will produce a callus, or will develop into a new plant. We will discuss and practice the technique during this meeting.
Plants are some of the most elegant machines nature provides us. Their systems are capable of nearly infinite growth and the manufacturing of countless useful products. And they look great while doing it!
