Strategic Planning for Multi-Benefit Urban Water Infrastructure

Much of the water infrastructure in the United States is nearing the end of its design life, and it faces new challenges from climate change. The next generation of urban water infrastructure can provide additional benefits like resource recovery, wildlife habitat and energy generation. Yet there is little guidance for how these broader societal goals for multi-benefit infrastructure can be integrated into what have historically been singular fields of engineered water supply and wastewater treatment. This talk presents a method for supporting decision-makers in implementing more equitable, holistic, and environmentally-sound urban water infrastructure.
