Turning Cells into Superheros

Logo

Come see how UCSF scientists are turning cells into superheroes by engineering immune cells to kill cancer! Researchers in Dr. Wendell Lim’s lab are programming T cells, the armed guards of the immune system, to kill cancer cells while leaving healthy tissues untouched. The Lim Lab will lead you through an interactive experience to design, build, and test a personalized cell therapy to treat a hypothetical cancer patient who has failed conventional treatment. We’ll explore gene expression patterns to identify a cancer signature to safely target. Then, we’ll design and build the DNA encoding our therapeutic program. Finally, we’ll engineer immune T cells with the therapy we designed and use microscopy to test their ability to specifically kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells. Please join us for this fun, hands-on lab experience!
