Maybe you know your self. (Or maybe you don’t.) But what exactly is the self, and where does it come from? Is it a specific area in the brain? A collection of traits or labels with which we choose to describe ourselves? Do others see our “selves” the way we do? Join Exploratorium social psychologist and relationship scientist Heike Winterheld as she uses insights from social science research to discuss different aspects of the self, the factors that shape it, and how understanding those factors can make us happier and ensure that others perceive us as we intend.
