PVsizer: A PV and battery storage design tool for landfill areas and beyond - Livestream

Solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) are increasingly being deployed on underutilized land, including retired landfill areas. This talk introduces a newly developed PV and BESS design tool that optimizes system configuration by maximizing PV size while minimizing BESS requirements, all within the local distribution system’s current and voltage capabilities. While initially designed for landfills, the tool can be applied to any site for preliminary PV and BESS estimation. Planned extensions include functionality for overcurrent and voltage support and, ultimately, transformation into a microgrid design platform. By aligning technical feasibility with system constraints, the tool provides actionable guidance for siting and planning resilient renewable projects.
