The Elephants of Tarangire: A Conservation Success Story

Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania is home to 2,500 elephants and is one of the best places in Africa to see large herds of these fabulous animals. Charles Foley and his wife, Lara, have been studying the elephant population of Tarangire for the past 17 years and have individually recognized and named over 1000 elephants. Charles' talk will introduce the elephants of Tarangire, discuss their fascinating social structure and describe the essential role that matriarchs play in elephant society. Unfortunately the increasing human population outside the Park is threatening to block the critical migration corridors and dispersal areas of the Tarangire elephants. Join us to learn about the project's conservation work with the local Masai communities to protect these vital elephant migration corridors.
Speaker: Dr. Charles Foley. This event raises funds for this project.
