Blood, Guts, and Glory: Insight into a Vertebrate Natural History Museum

What's the use of a bunch of dead things in cabinets? Are museums just dusty old things of the past? HARDLY! As part of the BNHM, UC Berkeley's Museum of Vertebrate Zoology is one of the most active vertebrate research museums in the United States. Not only does it have a vibrant research community, it also has a bustling and award winning undergraduate program. Learn more about this amazing institution in a "day in the life of a museum scientist" talk -- but beware, this is not an EBSC for the faint of heart.
About the Speaker
Monica Albe is a Senior Museum Scientist at the UC Berkeley Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. She manages the Preparation Lab, runs some courses on specimen preparation, and helps coordinate the undergraduate program and museum outreach activities. In 2002 she received her undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in Integrative Biology and then clung on for dear life until the museum gave up and hired her into a permanent position. In 2006 she developed the museum's undergraduate program and in 2008 the museum received the UCB Education Initiatives Award. Monica subsequently received a Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award in 2009.
