Space Traveling

Meyer-Brandis

The lecture deals with the Art and Science under the absence of weight. Starting point is an artistic project Agnes Meyer-Brandis conducted under the condition of weightlessness, entitled "Cloud-Core-Scanner." The experiment participated in a microgravity generating flight manoeuvre, that is usually restricted to scientific interests and was executed in collaboration with the DLR ( German Aerospace Centre). Furthermore, Meyer-Brandis will introduce 3 alternative methods of space traveling, one of them even dating way back as to the 17th century - the age of elightment. The lecture is a sometimes weigthy and sometimes weightless perambulation, in search of reality within constructions – on the ground, in the hemisphere and inside clouds.

German artist Agnes Meyer-Brandis comes from a background of both sculpture and new media art. Her work, exhibited worldwide, is at the experimental edge of art and science, exploring the zone between fact and fiction, fantasy and technology. She is working with participatory urban interventions. Her current research focus is on public places and situations as well as imaginary ones. Meyer-Brandis is the founder of the "Forschungsfloss FFUR / Research Raft for Subterranean Reefology," a small institute whose chief aim is to explore and confirm subterranean phenomena and unknown life forms. Since two years her focus of investigation moved into higher altitude with their connected realities. She realized an artistic experiment in weightlessness in cooperation with the German Space Agency DLR. For a more detailed description of her work, go to www.ffur.de.
