Peter is a long-time Bay Area mycologist and microscopist, and has studied mycology at University of Washington and SFSU. He has been very active in microscopy outreach and education around the SF Bay Area, and is an emiritus president of the San Francisco Microscopical Society and a former instructor in microscopy at Merritt College. More recently, Peter completed an MSc degree in Microscopy and Imaging at the National University of Ireland, Galway, with a thesis project that involved optimizing fungal culture methods for high-resolution live-cell microscopy. Before returning to the Bay Area in 2022, he lived in Ireland for three years and was very active in mycology there. Peter traveled extensively in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe before returning to the Bay Area last year. Peter currently works as a field service technician for Carl Zeiss Microscopy.
