2026 Awards Gala of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
Every year since 1898, the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (AstroSociety) has given one or more international awards for outstanding achievement in astronomy. The Society’s Bruce Medal, for example, is one of the most coveted recognitions in the field.
Get ready for an unforgettable evening celebrating this year's winners. Join us for cocktails, dinner, and the awards ceremony, followed by dessert and stargazing on Chabot's Observation Deck, with three domed telescopes overlooking the San Francisco Bay. (Appropriately, the first Director of Chabot was one of the founding officers of the AstroSociety in 1889.)
The Astro Society Awards Gala features keynote speaker Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager) and Bruce medalist Steve Howell (NASA Ames) who has designed and built novel instruments and led projects to understand exoplanets and stars that vary in brightness. Also attending will be the recent President of the American Astronomical Society, Dara Norman, who won the Walker award, and Shelley Wright, whose pioneering work in the search for “technosignatures” (signs of intelligent life in the universe) is being honored by the Muhlmann Prize. (Also attending will be the Board and staff of the AstroSociety.)
Join professional and amateur astronomers from around the region, educators at all levels, and astronomy enthusiasts, for an evening you will long remember.
