A Variation on the Powers of Ten, Futurefarmers

Picnic

Futurefarmers' Amy Franceschini and Michael Swaine are currently working on a new project for the Berkeley Art Museum. This new project, A Variation on the Powers of Ten, uses the opening scene of the 1977, Charles and Ray Eames film to frame ten discussions with a diverse range of researchers. Upon a blanket, they will discuss the changing landscape of research in various fields and the tools used or invented to gather, quantify and measure research now as compared to 33 years ago. This span of knowledge will provide a contemporary portrait of various perspectives on our changing world.

Futurefarmers is a group of artists, designers and architects who use various media to create work that responds to the time and place around them. Their work often provides a playful entry point and tools for an audience to gain insight into a deeper field of inquiry – not only to imagine, but to participate in and initiate change in the places we live. Futurefarmers was founded in 1995 as a design studio that serves as a platform to support art projects, an artist in residency program and research interests. Their work has been included in exhibitions internationally including ZKM, Whitney Museum of Art, the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Canadian Center for Architecture.
