Bat Week: Caller ID
Bats can be tricky to spot and are often next to impossible identify to species if you're lucky enough to see one whizz by. Thankfully, their echolocation calls can sometimes reveal which species you have flying around you.
In celebration of Bat Week, join us for a presentation that will cover some of the typical bats of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The presentation will also include info about how bat echolocation calls work and how a specialized microphone can record calls that aren't audible to our human ears! We will have one of these microphones handy to watch for calls and try to see some bats as the sun goes down. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to visit the refuge after dark and learn about these amazing nocturnal critters!
