Nightlife: Art of Science, Science of Art

This week we explore where creativity, craft, and the natural world meet, with talented illustrators, artists and other partners throughout the Academy. A must for all lovers of art, science, and everything in between.

Local Art supplier Flax Art and Design is will present an interactive station where you can try a variety of art materials and learn some tips to improve your sketching.

We will feature the work of the following artists, presented by the artists themselves:

Tiffany Bozic
- A frequent Academy collaborator whose work in fine art is inspired by the natural world, particularly the ocean.

Isabella Kirkland
– A fine artist who paints beautifully intricate scenes of nature, and whose work has often concentrated on recently discovered species.

David Tomb – An artist who has worked extensively with the Academy's collections to create his artwork based of the beautyof birds.

Giovanni Maki – A scientific illustrator who works here at the Academy in the Spider Lab.

Julianna Olsen – A scientific illustrator who works here in the Academy's Botany department.

Tom Daniel – A scientific illustrator who works here in Academy's Botany Department and oversees much of the Academy's scientific illustration.  He will show how the process of scientific illustration unfolds.

Jim Boyer – An Academy docent who draws hilarious cartoons inspired by and about the Academy, in a style that has been compared to the Far Side's Gary Larson.

Improvisational live artwork by Dean Gustafson, Virdell Hickman, and Carrie Leeb.

Also caricatures drawn by Big Al.
