Butterfly Extravaganza - POSTPONED

Editors Note: This event has been rescheduled to April 30.
Kick off the yearlong celebration of our Species of the Year: the endangered mission blue butterfly (Icaricia icariodes missionensis)!
Join us at the Marin Headlands Rifle Range for walks, talks, and hands-on family-friendly activities. And, with luck, you might get a glimpse at the first mission blues of the season!
In case of rain, the event will take place at the Marin Headlands Visitors Center.
This event is part of a yearlong celebration of the mission blue, the 2011 Species of the Year in the Golden Gate National Parks.
The mission blue was first discovered in San Francisco in 1937. With most of its grassland habitat lost to development, the mission blue (light iridescent blue and roughly the size of a quarter) became one of the first insects added to the federal endangered species list in 1976. Today, mission blue butterflies survive only in parts of the Golden Gate National Parks, Twin Peaks, and San Bruno Mountain.
Visit www.sfnps.org/species for all the details and to learn more about the butterfly and the Conservancy's efforts to protect its habitat.
