Dye Like a Natural

Come learn with Julie Yu, PhD, Exploratorium Teacher Institute staff scientist, how to stain your clothes on purpose! The art of natural dyeing has been practiced since ancient times. In this workshop, we'll repurpose plant and animal materials to create a variety of natural dyes. We'll then combine these with metal mordants to explore how to transfer pigments onto natural fibers, and discuss the chemistry of color.
