'The Return of the Harbor Porpoises'
"The Return of the Harbor Porpoises"
Lecture and slide-show by Bill Keener and Isidore Szczepaniak
As reported in the July-September issue of Bay Nature magazine, the harbor porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) have returned to the San Francisco Bay after a 65-year absence. Marine biologists Bill Keener and Isidore Szeczepaniak of Golden Gate Cetacean Research have logged hundreds of hours observing and photographing the porpoises, resulting in the most thorough and detailed documentation ever assembled of the lives of these elusive marine mammals. Now they will be sharing their pioneering research at a special talk and slide-show. Come and learn about the porpoises' behavior, abundance, and habitat use, as well as what you can do to promote the health of the porpoises and the Bay.
