Makers' NightLife

Robot

Celebrate innovation and the creative spirit with a sampling of creations from the maker movement.  See original Maker Faire projects up-close in the Piazza, including the towering stalagmites of Glow Cathedral, pieces by Applied Kinetic Arts and an interactive Dancing Robot who will play songs of your choice, jukebox-style.

Get in on the action and make your own "freak flag" at the Fly Your Freak Flag High craft table. Be dazzled by the storytelling of puppeteer Dax Tran-Caffee and his mechanical creations made from second-hand materials. Take Purin Phanichphant's challenge to create your own four-letter-word with his interactive art installation and social experiment.

At the Project Lab, learn about the "makers" of the animal kingdom, and temporarily turn your cell phone camera into a diagnostic-quality microscope using UC Berkeley's Cellscope equipment. In the planetarium, a special treat for all three shows: Spontaneous Fantasia, a live digital performance by multimedia artist J-Walt who uses computer graphics to bring paintings to life. The result is an improvised real-time, immersive animated movie that unfolds before your eyes, incorporating elements of animation, theater, dance, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and interactive art.
