Using Cognitive Science to Transform Assessment in College General Education

Louise Yarnall, Ph.D., senior research social scientist in the Center for Technology in Learning at SRI International, will be discussing a study that involved prototyping a new assessment to track how well community college students are learning "big ideas" in the first two years of college and how well they are learning to apply these ideas to real world problems.

Yarnall specializes in community college education research, assessment design, evaluation of scaling up classroom innovative instructional and assessment practices, and journalism education research.
