Address:

Metaquizzical Cafe
10 Fourth St
Petaluma, CA 94952

OceanWorks Productions launches a new musical science salon called 'The MetaQuizzical Cafe' which will debut as a weekly series during the nine week run of the Smithsonian's BEYOND exhibit at the Petaluma Historical Museum beginning Sunday, May 8th.

The MetaQuizzical Cafe–a musical science and philosophy salon–is musical edutainment for those hungry for knowledge. Each unique event centers on the scientific or philosophical concept behind one of singer-songwriter Jim Ocean's original songs and is a spicy blend of live music, speaker interview and audience Q&A.  A stimulating food-for-thought potluck concocted from the interplay between the audience, musicians, speakers, and host Jim Ocean.

The Petaluma-based Institute of Noetic Sciences–founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell and dedicated to expanding science beyond conventional paradigms–will provide speakers for several of the programs.

Each cafe opens with an original song followed by a 'Science News Round-up' and an introduction to the topic and the speaker.  Following the speaker segment, Ocean will perform the theme song for the cafe and then interview the speaker.  Audience Q&A follows; the program ends with an audience sing-a-long and a meet and greet with refreshments.

The Beyond exhibit will also feature music videos of several of Jim Ocean's original songs that were produced specially for the exhibit.  A local videographer produced a photo montage video for the song 'Macro to Micro' and Marco Serri and Tom Delanoue, a French film-making team from Shot of Life Creative Studio in Paris, produced film shorts for the songs 'Said the Dark to the Light' and 'Four Percent'.  The videos will be part of a tape loop that will be available for viewing during the run of the exhibit.  Click here to view the videos.
