Our Changing Seas: Voyage to an Earth that No One Has Seen Before

Howard Spero, PhD, is a professor and Chairman of the Department of Geology at the University of California, Davis. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the California Academy of Sciences. Dr. Spero conducts research at the interface between living organisms and the fossil remains that are left behind in ocean sediment. His research group focuses on the calibration and development of geochemical tools to extract novel environmental information from the shells of marine fossils in order to reconstruct the history of Earth's past climates and ocean circulation change. Dr. Spero has trained numerous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and has authored more than 100 scientific publications in this research area.
