Keeping Up With Global Warming: The Problem That Won't Go Away: Making Predictions
Global warming: it's a phrase that gets bandied about by politicians, the news media, environmentalists, and dinner party guests. Al Gore said it's happening and we all make comments about the crazy weather; but, if we are not scientists ourselves, how much do we truly understand about the implications?
Scientist Barbara-Ann Lewis prefers to use the more technically accurate phrase, "heating of the Earth," and she's on a mission to educate the general public about the actual science behind this critical issue. "If we keep soft-pedaling the hard facts, we do no one any favors except for those who want to put their heads in the sand," she says. "The danger to the planet and its inhabitants is real."
The Business, Science & Technology Center of SFPL and the University of the Commons are co-sponsoring a three-part Sundays With Science lecture-discussion series about this problem. With Dr. Lewis's straightforward presentations in plain language, you'll be surprised how much science you can grasp, understand, and even become excited about!
