Things should be things and not computers

Who wants to reboot their thermostat? Garage door   opener?  That's where we're heading because most Internet   of Things (IoT)  vendors have taken a "Honey, I shrunk the   computer" design approach.  That's wrong. The danger is   that the commonly used Internet architecture, that was   designed in the minicomputer era, doesn't translate well   to IoT. The reason is cost.

Fortunately cloud   computing enables us to reduce overall system cost and   complexity.  First, endpoints can remain simple which   means more reliable products, and more be secure.  Second,   and more importantly, the Cloud
enables  low cost and   easy to install products.  Both of which are necessary for   the internet of things mass market to grow rapidly.  We'll   explore real world applications enabled a cloud based IoT   architecture.
